Megatrends are changes that are slow to form tendency, but are very likely to affect the future in all areas the next 10-15 years - like globalization, technology, economy, workforce, demographics, political, and environmental (figure 1). Once in place, megatrends influence a wide range of activities, processes and perceptions, both in business, government and in society, possibly for decades. They are the underlying forces that drive trends. (i.e. aging population).

The process megatrends are already shaping the future. No one can go back to the future but there definitely are some trends that will have significant impact on how organization apply and take advantage of process the next ten years. The ten process megatrends have enormous potential, and will definitely change, improve, and revolutionize the future. BPM provides the context and best mechanism to achieve the full potential of the technology trends for the next decade. BPM is at the core of the intersection between underlying technologies and human participants – providing the perfect place to leverage technology trends while providing the business context.
